The aim of the qualification is to prepare people to help support learners, in a voluntary capacity, in a learning environment such as a classroom where there is a specialist teacher present.
What does the course involve?

The course consists of 10 taught sessions on a Tuesday evening.  As well as attending classes candidates will complete a volunteer placement in a Literacy or ESOL class for at least 8 weeks.  

What Will I Study?

: The aim of the qualification is to prepare people to help support learners, in a voluntary capacity, in a learning environment such as a classroom where there is a specialist teacher present. The qualification aims to:

• develop an awareness of the impact on the personal, social and working life of those with poor literacy and language skills and the strategies to address these
• develop knowledge of the tools and processes for identifying literacy and language needs
• develop an understanding of the characteristics of adult learners and the learning process
• provide an opportunity to support learners under the guidance of a subject specialist teacher
• develop and understanding of literacy and/or ESOL
