The horticulture industry offers a range of careers and contributes over £24 billion to the UK economy. If you are interested in plants, have a creative flair or enjoy the scientific element, then horticulture could be the course for you. Horticulture will often take the classroom outside for much of the course, where learners will gain an understanding of plants, trees, garden therapy, pest control, aquatics and lawns. Throughout the course, you will learn all about their biology and how to grow and keep them healthy. You will learn the skills of landscaping a garden using paths, fences, pergolas, creating planting schemes and how to safely use the tools and materials necessary to complete the jobs. Along the way, you will learn about pest control, soil improvement and how to create habitats for nature. You will explore the wider land-based sector and also the commercial and organisational skills for managing a garden or horticultural business.
