Getting Confident in Digital Skills

This 10 week course has been developed to support participants to gain confidence in understanding and using everyday IT programs. Ideal for those who feel they require further education around a variety of digital skills, whether it is for personal or career development this course will support individuals in becoming more digitally competent.

Led by our expert tutor participants will become familiar with working with files and folders, using spreadsheets, understanding word processing software and much more.

This course is Free of charge for people who:

  • Are aged over 19
  • Have lived in the UK or EU for 3 or more years.
  • Unemployed or are earning less than £18,525
  • Qualified below a Level 2 (5 GCSEs equivalence)

For those who are not eligible for a free place, students will be co-funded on this course if they:

  • Are aged over 19
  • Have been a resident in the UK for 3 or more years.

Spaces are subject to evidence of wage slip / benefits and proof of residency prior to start date.

Co – funded placements will cost participants £100 for the duration of the course.

What topics are covered?

The course will follow the below structure

Week 1 – Getting to know your PC and Windows

Week 2 – Working with files and folders

Week 3 – Using the Internet effectively

Week 4 – Staying safe online – protecting yourself and your computer

Week 5 – Using Internet services including Internet Banking  

Week 6 – Using communication software

Week 7 – Using Word Processing software

Week 8 – Using spreadsheets

Week 9 – Using presentation software

Week 10 – Creating and editing graphics

How will I learn?

Participants will learn through tutor led demonstrations followed by attempting tasks independently.

What do I need to bring?

College provisions will be provided, there is no expectation for participants to bring own devices.


Participants may wish to bring a notepad and pen.
