Introduction to British Sign Language

Your first steps into the world of BSL

This beginner-friendly course runs for 1 hour per week over 6 weeks and introduces the basics of British Sign Language in a relaxed, welcoming environment.

Perfect for complete beginners, families, teachers, or anyone curious about signing. No experience needed—just your hands and your enthusiasm!

You will start with fingerspelling and basic vocabulary, gradually building up to everyday conversation, facial expressions, and grammar unique to BSL. Lessons often include group practice, role-play, and cultural insights into the Deaf community, helping you gain both language skills and confidence in real-life communication.

Andy is a profoundly Deaf British Sign Language (BSL) educator with over 20 years of experience teaching learners of all ages and backgrounds. Passionate about breaking down communication barriers, Andy delivers engaging, culturally rich BSL instruction that fosters true understanding and connection with the Deaf community. His teaching is rooted in lived experience, promoting Deaf awareness and inclusivity in every lesson.
