Business is everywhere - from your local corner shop to big multinational organisations like Apple and Google. When you start work you will be working in a business of some sort. So, whatever career path you choose, having a good grounding in business will be a major benefit to you. Our Business courses are taught by lecturers with a wealth of industry experience and they will provide you with an insight into what’s involved in running a business, how it is organised and financed, plus the importance of effective communication and marketing. On this vocational course, you’ll also have the opportunity to run your own business event and undertake a week’s work experience.

What will I study?

How will I learn?

You will learn through a range of different teaching and learning methods, including standard lectures, practical work and individual and group based learning, using case studies and visits to local business to bring concepts to life. Each unit requires you to produce a range of evidence that includes written reports, presentations and videos.

In year two, you will complete a program of work experience over a full week in the spring.

How will I be assessed?

These qualifications are both internally assessed by your lecturers and externally assessed by the awarding body.

Both courses include examinations:


Units 1, 2, 3 and 15 are assessed by exam and marked by the exam board.

Your lecturers will internally assess all the other units

Extended Diploma:

Units 1, 2, 3, 9, 10 and 15 are assessed by exam and marked by the exam board.

Your lecturers will internally assess all the other units


Are there any trips on this course?

Throughout the course, we aim to visit a range of local well-known businesses to bring to life the concepts you learn throughout the course

Are there any specific entry requirements?

Grade 4 in Maths & English.

Careers Information


Do I need to have good ICT skills?

You need to have experience in Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint, but a lot of help will be given to you if you need it.

What else should I study along side this qualification?

Students that study either the Business Sub Diploma or Diploma should consider the certificate in Financial Services to compliment their programme.

Should I have studied business at GCSE?

No previous business studies experience is necessary
