Equine Management

This course is suitable for those with existing knowledge or experience of working with horses. You will have the opportunity to study a number of diļ¬€erent horse related topics such as Horse Biology and Anatomy and Physiotherapy, Horse Behaviour, The Horse Racing Industry, Horse Rehabilitation and Therapy, Horse Nutrition, Stable Management, Care of the Competition Horse, Business Management - amongst many others. You will study in a practical location at our own yard and at the College. This will provide you with the knowledge and skills to progress into the world of work, or into Higher Education, and enable you to achieve your career goals.

What will I study?

The course is a two year course and includes a work experience element.  It will prepare the learner to progessing onto higher education or into employment.

How will I be assessed?

Through various methods such as:

  • Examination
  • Synoptic assessment
  • Assignments
  • Portfolio of evidence
  • Practical test
  • Observation
  • Controlled Assessement


Are there any trips on this course?

The course includes a number of relevant trips such as the Horse of the Year Show and Cheltenham Races. It also includes talks from many visiting guests such as Equine Physiotherapists, Vets, Farriers, Equine Nutritionists and Bedding specialists.

Are there any extra costs?

Yes, there may be trips and activities during the course, including the chance to ride which all students can participate in on a Wednesday enrichment afternoon. It is highly encouraged that all Horse Management students do ride whether through this opportunity within College or through private teaching.

Are there any specific entry requirements?

5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above.  These must be selected from our subject list, which can be found on the Entry Requirements tab on the website.  Having some experience with horses is beneficial.

Will I need special equipment?

You will need your own sturdy boots, overalls and wet weather gear. Further safety equipment will be provided.

Will I need my own horse?

No, you will have access to a local stables.

Will I be able to ride the horses?

There is an opportunity for all students to ride at a cost. Students on the Extended Diploma may ride during their course.
