Travel and Tourism with Hospitality & Event Management

So you would like to work in the hospitality, tourism or event industry and possibly travel the world? By studying these industries you will gain an in-depth knowledge of the organisations involved and how they work together. Customer service is key to the success of the industry and you will have the opportunity to deliver customer service in diļ¬€erent situations as well as investigate how organisations meet the needs of their customers. You will plan, participate and market an event of your choice. During the two-year course you will undertake work experience in a relevant organisation. There is the opportunity to go on several course related trips, some of which are overseas.

What will I study?

You will study 18 units over the two years with the main focus being on the Hospitalty and Events and Travel and Tourism industries. You will have the opportunity to develop and understand the importance of customer service skills. You will also investigate the UK Conference and Events market as well as marketing strategies to help you arrange a successful event. You will complete a minimum of one weeks work placement in a suitable organisation.

How will I learn?

As part of your assessment you will do a range of different activities ranging from the need to demonstate customer service skills, deliver a welcome meeting and plan and deliver a guided tour. You will experience destinations which will enable you to research and write about them. You may be required to use social media to carry out surveys and gather evidence to support your findings. One of the units you will study will involve you planning and participating in a group events.

Are there any trips on this course?

The hospitality students have had the opportunity to visit Disneyland Paris, Za Za Bazzar in Bristol, plus trips to local hospitality providers

Are there any extra costs?

In the second year of your qualification you will study the role of cabin crew and the assessment will take place externally at a cost of approximately £80.

All students will need a Cirencester College polo shirt to wear for some assessment activities. These are approximately £15

What enrichment activities are offered?

There are a range of trips that take place over the two years of the course, some of which could be overseas. We are very lucky to have a good relationship with many of the sectors in the industry and guest speakers regularly come to college to share their knowledge with us.

What work experience opportunities are there?

During the second year of the course all students are expected to participate in a minimum of one week's industry related work experience
