These courses are designed to meet the needs of students wishing to pursue a career in one of the Uniformed Public Services –the armed forces, police, fire and rescue, ambulance service, Border Agency, HM Revenue and Customs, Security Services or Probation Service.
The course can assist entry to the public services. If you wish to delay entry or change your career choice the skills you gain will also allow you to progress to a suitable higher education programme, where previous students have enrolled in the Officer Training Corps (OTC), alongside their main programme of study. Students wishing to join the police force will be encouraged to apply to join the Special Constabulary during year two.
At the end of your course you will have a recognised qualification which will be an advantage when applying for a position in the public services or other careers as the skills you learn are transferable to many other employment areas. These include:

Uniformed Public Services is a blend of practical and theory, delivered in a way to develop to stretch and challenge students in order that they may have the skills to progress in their Public Service careers.
Currently, there are no exams on the extended Diploma course. All units are assessed through assignment-based work and the observation of practical demonstrations and activities. The assignments will have deadlines for completion and a strong emphasis is placed upon compliance with these deadlines. You may be required to meet the standards of other awarding bodies in relation to practical skill assessments and exams.

there is a course Fee of £250 Per year which covers adventurous/ career trips and activities, transport, food, insurance, instructors and some equipment hire when required. You will also be provided with a course polo shirt for use during external visits and talks from guest speakers.

No, but you will be required to take part in physical and adventurous activities. The course is designed to ensure you have time to develop your fitness levels in preparation for joining your preferred public service. You will also be able to seek advice on training from fully qualified staff. Students are expected to take responsibility for their own fitness development.
Absolutely not. The course has always been and is becoming increasingly popular with female students as more trades within the public services become open to women.
