Be Part Of The Career Ready Programme

Cirencester College is proud to participate in a national employability programme called Career Ready.  Nationally around 2,700 students participate each year and at Cirencester our programme is structured into three career themes:

Business & Finance

Technology and Communications

Sports & Leisure

Did you know?

In a recent survey by the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) of almost 600 companies across all sectors the top criteria for recruitment were:

Employability Skills

Having a positive attitude

having relevant work experience

Each theme is driven by a board of local and national employers and is supported by enthusiastic industry volunteers. They focus on raising career awareness and enabling students to reach their aspirations. The programme runs for 15 months over Years 1 and 2 and in 2014 Cirencester College received a national award for being the top Career Ready centre in the UK.

What does Career Ready Programme offer?

You will be part of a group of students who are dedicated to developing their career ambitions and employability skills.  You will participate in Career Ready activities in addition to your curriculum studies and there are four key elements to the programme:

A series of masterclasses and workshops delivered with employers, focusing on your employability skills like CV writing, interview skills and networking

Face to face mentor sessions with an employer to help you develop your career aspirations and receive relevant advice and guidance

The opportunity to secure a work placement adding real experience to your CV and giving you a competitive advantage

Employer visits and seminars to share career experiences and emerging industry issues

Events will be scheduled throughout the year and will occasionally clash with a lesson.  Career Ready students are expected to attend these events after having excused themselves from their lesson and with a commitment to catch up on missed work.

How do I get involved?

Places on the programme are offered through a competitive selection process, so please let us know at enrolments that you are interested.  In September you will be invited to attend an information session and to apply for the programme online.  Interviews will then be used to select the final students.  These interviews will focus on your understanding of the programme and the benefits for you personally.  You will also need to demonstrate your motivation and commitment.  The interviews do not focus on your academic results.

What if I’m not interested in these industries?

If you are motivated to develop a career in another industry then you could still benefit from the Career Ready masterclass programme, so please let us know this when you enrol.
