The Extended Project Qualification, Pre-Teaching is an amazing opportunity to discover what it is like to be a teacher. You will gain practical experience, discover the many directions teaching can take you in and you get to choose your own topic area to research. Students in the past have researched SEN (special educational needs), Sport in Education, Gender Gaps in Education, Teaching Methods plus others.
What will I study in Pre-Teaching EPQ?
You will learn to manage your own research project based around a teaching area of your choice.
You will learn how to plan your project using varying methods including Gannt charts.
You will also develop independent research skills that will not only be beneficial to this course but all courses in the future.
You will also learn about different aspects in education across a range of setting. This can be anything from early years to FE.
The beauty of this course is you get to choose your research topic area and supported through the process or producing some research around it with your own mentor.
Entry Requirements
At least 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above all from the core subjects.
How will I learn?
You will be taught sessions in a classroom that are there to help support you prior to starting your project.
You will then have a mentor to support you through all of the different stages of the project, all the way from choosing a research area to submission.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed through course work and a portfolio.
Any trips?
The pre teaching course strongly encourages work experience in some sort of educational setting. Some examples of this might be at primary school where you may help with sports clubs after school or reading in the classrooms, at a previous secondary school where you assist in the SEN department or a specific class or an early years setting where you help set up and design activities for different types of development.
Are there any costs involved?
No additional costs apart from books and stationery.
