What will I study in Media (Production) Level 3 Diploma?

You will study across a range of creative media arts projects all within moving image practices, such as music video, advertising, factual and documentary production, live T.V. studio production, short film drama, and the opportunity to explore via a variety of animation forms including stopmotion and 3D animation. Alongside practical coursework focused project work you will also be taught in-depth media theories that relate to all your areas of study including industry and audience. This course will allow you to develop and explore your creative ideas alongside developing your practical media hardware and software skills. This course is a gateway to continuing your media arts studies at higher education or in a relevant apprenticeship

Entry Requirements

At least 5 GCSEs at grade 4 all from the core subjects. Prior relevant study within an arts related subject such as art and design, music, dance, drama, media studies or photography is preferable, however not a requirement.

How will I learn?

You will be taught via in-class practical activities, hardware and software demonstrations, lectures and set projects. You will work both in small groups and individually to complete such work. Your lecturers and full time technician will guide you as you discover your potential as a future media practitioner. All project work is submitted digitally within a website you will develop as you progress through the course alongside a detailed reflective production journal you will update weekly.

How will I be assessed?

The first year of the course is a Level 3 Diploma, the second year allows you to top-up to the Level 3 Extended Diploma. Both years of the course end with a final major project that becomes the assessment focus of the year. This final project can be graded as either a PASS, MERIT or DISTINCTION. All initial project work forms the foundation of skills and knowledge required to complete the final projects and must achieve a PASS grade. There are no formal examinations in this course. All project based coursework is liable to be external assessed by the exam board at the end of each academic year.

Any trips?

We endeavour to visit the Harry Potter Studio Tour London once per year where we are able to access lessons from the official Warner Brothers education team at the studio

There are no specific costs associated with the course beyond small expenses for any printing / photocopying and office supplies

How many hours a week is this course?

Currently this course has 13.5 lesson hours per week


Do I need my own media production equipment like cameras and a laptop?

No, we will provide all the production equipment you will require. However, having your own suitable production equipment is beneficial.


What will I need to bring to lessons?

You will need to bring a folder, note-pad and suitable pens. You will also need a 16gigabyte minimum USB stick and a 32gigabyte Class 10 SD card (for recording audio and video materials)


How big is the class?

The class size per year can vary however around 23 is average


How many A-Level is the course worth?

The first year of the course (the Diploma in Creative Media Production and Technology) is equivalent to 1.5 A-levels of study. The second year of the course (the Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production and Technology) is equivalent to 1.5 A-levels of study. You must fully complete the Diploma to then access the Extended Diploma
