New for 2023 - This T-level combines artistic flair with technical skills and developing a commercial awareness. Whether you specialise in jewellery, ceramics, furniture or textiles you will enhance your understanding of design principles through research, experiment and being introduced to new examples. You will also explore a wide range of different materials, techniques and equipment and develop skills from casting to cutting, glazing to 3D printing. It will also introduce you to the business side of the sector so that you understand markets, costing and supply chains and how to price work and pitch for business. Your placement will be really important in exploring your preferred specialism and ensuring that you are ready to move on into a sector career or to higher education.

What will I study in Craft and Design T-level?

Following a combined programme exploring materials, techniques and processes, the option to specialise in one of the Occupational Specialisms exploring practicalities of client/customer, marketing, budget, outlets - besides the creative design aspects working to specific Assignment briefs.   A significant amount of time will be outside of college with work experience.

Entry Requirements

Five GCSEs grade 4-9 to include English and maths.

How will I learn?

The course will involve practical studio-based learning, demonstrations, design work, drawing, research into craft practice, examinations and work experience.

From general exploration of artisan craft skills and materials/techniques to greater specialist learning of specific skills.

How will I be assessed?

Working to practical timed tasks to research, test and design, present and refine, make drawings and plans - and to reflect and evaluate design project briefs.

There are two Core Exams

Successful completion of work experience placements

Any trips?

Research trips to craft makers, retail outlets, field trips for inspiration.
