Maths Level 2 Functional Skills
Functional Skills Maths is all about problem solving, where questions are set in a contextual situation. Students are then required to decide what mathematical skills are required to progress.
This will require students to develop their literacy skills, being able to understand what information is necessary from that which is being given to them.
What will I study in Maths Level 2 Functional Skills?
Questions given to the students should expose them to a wide variety of real-life problems, allowing them to recognise the maths in their lives around them.
Topics include Number, Measure and Data (the only algebra needed is to be able to substitute into a formula).
Entry Requirements
Students will need to have passed Functional Skills Level 1 Maths to be able to progress onto Functional Skills Level 2.
How will I learn?
You'll learn the course by working in small classes, further developing your mathematical skills as well as your ability to interpret and solve problems. The skills you use will be more involved, sometimes requiring you to use a few different methods to solve a problem.
You will have two lessons every week.
How will I be assessed?
There are assessments "on-demand" throughout the year, to be taken when you are ready. These do not have a grade, they are just qualified as being a Pass or Fail.
They consist of two parts: non-calculator (25 minutes) and calculator (1 hour 30 minutes)
Awarding Body
Pearson
