A-level Maths is the single most popular A-level in the country. This A-level extends many of the topics you have met at GCSE, as well as introducing some very new ideas. This A-level is designed to support study in areas of science, economics and computing as well as stats heavy subjects like psychology, biology and geography.

If you are planning on a career or university course in the areas of Maths, Physics, Engineering or Computer Science – or if you just really love learning maths – then the Maths and Further Maths 2 A-level package might be for you. This means you would study the normal A-level in Mathematics followed by a specialist Further Maths A-level aimed at bridging the gap to careers and university courses with very large maths contents. This A-level contains a lot of maths that most other students will never even need to think about but forms an essential part of higher study. If you are looking at the most selective Russell Group Universities then this may even be required as part of your offer, or just a highly desirable subject to support your application.

Whether you are working in an office, restaurant, beauty salon, or on a farm or construction site, it is likely that good numeracy will help you do your job well. Since numerical skills are so important in the workplace, the government require students to keep studying Maths until they achieve a grade 4. Hence, students who attained a grade 3 in GCSE Maths at school must study GCSE Maths until they attain at least a grade 4. By attaining a grade 4 in GCSE Maths you vastly improve your future career opportunities. We have an excellent pass rate; one of the highest in the country for resits.

GCSE Maths Higher is for students who are targeting a grade 5 or higher. The entry requirement is a Grade 4 in Maths, but students are also accepted onto the course if they are entering UK mainstream education from either home educated backgrounds, foreign schools or Steiner schools, if appropriate. The main reasons that students take this course are either to meet university entry requirements, to supplement BTEC and T-level qualifications, or to enable progression onto A-Level courses requiring GCSE Maths at grade 5 or above.

Core Maths Statistical Techniques looks at the methods and techniques needed to analyse real world situations. The course teaches practical skills for personal finance such as calculation of tax, national insurance and student loan repayments, critically analysing data presented in the news for accuracy, bias and information as well as using statistics to describe and analyse real-life situations. It is a one year course that complements subjects like Psychology, Geography and Biology.
