Former performing arts students Laruen Wood and Emily Green returned to College last week to lead a challenging masterclass for year 1 and year 2 performing arts students.

Both girls completed their Level 3 Diploma in Performing Arts this year and successfully auditioned to join The Academy of Live and Recorded Arts (ALRA) in September.  This is a critical time for 2nd years who themselves will be preparing their own applications and auditions for drama school in what is a really competitive world.  Lauren and Emily shared their experiences of auditioning and what it’s like to be at drama school.  Afterwards they led  a collection of highly effective exercises from drama school training to help the students prepare solo audition material for drama school and professional auditions. The workshop was incredibly technical, demanding, motivating and reflective of the standard required for the performing arts industry. Emily and Lauren also discussed a typical day in the life of a drama school student and closed with a detailed Q&A session.

Performing Arts Lecturer Alex Curry said, “It was fantastic to have Emily and Lauren back at college to share some superbly effective exercises from their training at ALRA; our students have already started applying the exercises to their current audition material. Having recently graduated Lauren and Emily discussed how these exercises could improve current students’ audition material, by reflecting on their auditions a year ago, was invaluable. It really reinforces learning and enhances the Cirencester College community when two successful young people from Cirencester College Performing Arts come back to offer share, advice and support. We are hugely grateful to Emily and Lauren.”

Lauren explained ‘it was fantastic to share with the students things that we wished we had known before we started the process of applying to Drama School.’  Emily added, ‘it was exciting to come back to College and visit old friends, we really enjoyed showing the students both the fun and challenging side of drama school.’
