Music Performance Level 3 Certificate

This course is aimed at singers, guitarists, pianists, drummers, keyboard and bass players and focuses on pop, rock and jazz, music performance and the music industry. The course will suit those of you who have several years’ experience in performing a range of musical styles with the aim of improving both your practical ability and your general knowledge of music.

What will I study in Music Performance Level 3 Certificate?

The course will involve performance as part of a live band and as a soloist and the study of music theory and harmony, ear training, rhythm studies and sight reading. This course will stimulate you to explore the work of a range of musical styles and generate your own ideas through practical and written work. You will be introduced to a broad variety of materials and techniques and encouraged to experiment with them to develop ideas and produce final pieces and performances.

Entry Requirements

At least five GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, including three from the basket subjects and Maths and English. In addition, you will be invited to attend an audition.

How will I be assessed?

You will generally be assessed through coursework. However, there is an external assessment unit based on the music industry.  This is a timed, written task.

Any trips?

You will perform gigs outside of college, alongside many college performances.

Are there any costs involved?

Only to own and maintain your own instrument.

If you are seeking instrumental/vocal lessons outside of college, that may be an additional cost.

FAQs

Do I get one to one instrumental/vocal lessons?

No.  Unfortunately, the college can't accommodate this.  However, we do recommend students seek their own private lessons.


Do I need to know how to read music?

Yes.  Basic knowledge is essential (at least grade 1 standard), prior to starting the course. We teach theory and harmony as part of the specification.


What practical level do I need to be at the time of the audition?

You need to be at a grade four level or above.
