What topics are covered?

There will be five sessions covering:

Free Verse

Getting started and gathering ideas for your writing.

Writing rhyming couplets.

Writing in iambic pentameter.

Writing sonnets and.

Writing villanelles.

How will I learn?

This course will be run as a series of workshops where we will be reading sample poems, gathering our own ideas, drafting poems and reading out our finished work to the group. Alongside these interactive activities, the tutor will provide handouts and PowerPoint presentations to enhance your learning.

What do I need to bring?

A pen and paper.

What else do I need to know?

This course will be taught at a similar level to GCSE English so it will be suitable for those who are new to writing rhymed poems or for those who have some basic knowledge of poetic techniques.
