Music Technology is aimed at people who have a general interest in recording, producing music and/or possess competent instrumental skills. This course could be the first step to working in a recording studio or lead a student to study related courses at university.

What will I study in Music Technology Level 3 Certificate?

You will develop your music technology and production skills using industry standard equipment, work on projects based on realistic workplace situations, learn to sequence, record, produce and compose with technology.

Entry Requirements

At least five GCSEs at Grade 4 and above, including three from the basket subjects and Maths and English Language. In addition, you must have a passion for music and editing/mixing.

How will I learn?

This is a 2-year linear course – You will be timetabled for 4 hours 30 minutes per week for this course alone.  You may have to use the recording facilities in your own time to complete assignments.  During the timetabled hours you will attend lectures and demonstrations on recording/production and sequencing techniques.

How will I be assessed?

You will complete warm-up assignments and practise tasks to familiarise yourself with the skills and techniques and then be assessed via coursework.  In addition, there is an externally assessed unit.  This will involve both timed written and practical assignments.

Any trips?

We aim to visit a professional recording studio each year.

Are there any costs involved?

Every student is expected to have their own headphones and USB storage device. You are expected to bring these every lesson.

FAQs

Do I need to be able to play an instrument?

You do not.  However, many students do and find this very beneficial.


Do I need to own my own DAW/Production software?

No.  However, it is a huge advantage if you do.


Will I be able to use the facilities outside of lessons?

Yes, you will have access.  However, this will be limited by timetables/other classes.
