New for 2023 - Floristry is far more than flower arranging. Of course, you will learn all the skills you will need to produce amazing displays, but you will also be designing and making structures for more elaborate installations and learning how to look after flowers. Think of it as 3D art with flowers. Your introduction to all aspects of the business will range from customer care to stock
control to sales. Along the way you will learn all about the land-based sector, some plant biology, design principles and how to use a wide range of tools and materials so that you are ready to move into your career. Besides the familiar high street shops, many florists specialise in wholesale, weddings, corporate events or work freelance. There are many options once you complete your T-level.
What will I study in Agriculture, Land Management and Production: Floristry T-level?
You will have a broad learning experience to equip you for working in the floristry industry.
You will learn about the different types of flowers. the seasons where and when flowers flourish. The art of matching colours for different bouquets and displays and the suitability for all occasions including weddings, funerals, Christmas, birthdays, Mother's Day and everything in between.
You will also learn about displays and techniques for tying bouquets.
There is an element of science within the course including the planting and the best type of soil for floristry.
You will learn about Floristry as a business including the sectors to work in and how a business may fit into different sectors.
You will learn about raising funds from different sources and the risks and pitfalls.
The sustainability of this type of business is a really important topic area to prepare learners for running a long and successful business.
Entry Requirements
At least 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 or above: including 3 from the core subjects Course Specific Entry Requirements: Grade 4 in English and Maths
How will I learn?
The course will be taught through a range of methods including classroom presentations and practical methods both in and out of the classroom.
You will experience a range of guest speakers and experts from the industry as well as have the opportunity to go on visits outside of college to see a range of businesses.
Students will be expected to learn outside of lesson time as well as in lectures to develop the breath of knowledge to be successful at the end of the course.
How will I be assessed?
There are 2 exams within the second year of the course plus an Employer Set Project.
There is also an occupational specialism assessment at the end of the course that includes a range of tasks that consolidates the learning over the 2 years.
All learners must also complete 315 hours of logged industry placement with an external provider to gain the qualification.
Any trips?
Yes, there will be trips both locally and potentially further afield.
These will range from local businesses to global enterprises.
