How will I learn?
By performing calculations, constructing financial statements (from memory) and writing essays. This is done by a mixture of individual and group work. Students also have the opportunity to apply for work placements in an accounting environment with a local employer via our in-house work placement coordinator.
We emphasise the importance of flipped learning - which means that you will be asked to make notes and try easy questions in your independent study time so that when you are in class you are ready to jump straight into practising harder questions. Successful students tend to be self-motivated, put in lots of effort, are curious, ask for help if they don't understand something, are organised, and are willing to invest their non-lesson time in practising their skills. This could be your future career - so take it seriously!
How will I be assessed?
At the end of the 2 years there are 2 exams - both 3 hours long.
Additionally there is weekly homework set, and regular in-class progress assessments.
Any trips?
In the past students have been to the Bank of England, Royal Mint as well as local employers.
Are there any costs involved?
There are 2 resource packs (1 for each year of study) about £5 each
You need a calculator for every lesson (not a mobile phone), along with a pencil, rubber and paper.
