This week Year 1 Sport and Physical Activity students relished the opportunity to develop their leadership skills when they worked with Cotswold School Games to deliver a successful Sports Hall Athletics competition for local primary school children.
Over 250 excited children from nine schools attended the event and participated in a carousel of activities including standing long jump, triple jump, and relay racing. Our students did an amazing job of coaching them and keeping score.
There was a fantastic supportive atmosphere in the Sports Hall, and our students handled the event with brilliant professionalism and ensured that it was highly enjoyable for all.
Year 1 student Heidi said “I thoroughly enjoyed helping run the primary school sports games. It was lovely to see all of the children getting so involved and enthusiastic. This was a great opportunity and experience for me as I would love to go into a career in the future regarding sports coaching or teaching, and this has helped me build the necessary skills needed for a job like this.”
Ross Langworthy, Course Team Leader for Sport and Physical Activity, said “The annual Sports Hall Athletics competition gives our Year 1 Extended Diploma students an excellent opportunity to coach, lead, and officiate in a highly competitive environment. We have received fantastic feedback from the event organisers and visiting schools on how well our students represented the College and contributed to a memorable event for the children.”
Sadie Herbert, Cotswold School Games Organiser commented “As a School Games Organiser, it is so amazing to see how dedicated and enthusiastic the Cirencester College Sports Leaders were at the event. They were simply incredible! They were brilliant with the staff and children from the primary schools, enthusiastic and superb role models.”
Well done to all involved in this successful event, you should be proud of your efforts.
