French for Beginners

Learn beginner French for holidays, travel, work and everyday conversation, building confidence in speaking, listening, reading and writing French in a friendly and supportive environment.

Have you ever dreamed of ordering confidently in a French café, asking for directions in Paris, or chatting with French-speaking friends and family? This French for Beginners course is the perfect starting point for anyone with little or no previous knowledge of the language.

Whether you love travelling to France, have family or friends who speak French, or simply want to challenge yourself with a new skill, this engaging and practical course will help you develop the confidence to communicate in everyday situations.

By the end of the course, you will be able to communicate using simple French phrases, ask for and understand basic information, and express opinions in a variety of common travel and social situations. You will develop your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills through interactive activities and real-life scenarios.

Throughout the course, you will explore a variety of useful topics including:

Greetings, titles and introductions
Numbers
Talking about family and personal possessions
Asking for and giving directions
Making enquiries about places and things
Booking hotel accommodation
Ordering a snack and a drink
Ordering a three-course meal in a restaurant
Making a complaint in a restaurant or hotel
Shopping, quantities and prices
Hobbies and leisure interests
Describing an illness and symptoms
Buying tickets
Describing people and appearance
Describing a property
Expressing opinions and making comparisons
Talking about holiday plans and the weather
And many more practical everyday situations

Each week you will build your conversational skills around themes such as food, travel, restaurants, cafés and local culture, helping you develop useful language skills that you can put into practice straight away.
