As the media sector in the UK continues to grow, begin your career in this exciting industry by studying our Level 3 Certificate in Digital Media. This course will help to develop your knowledge and practical skills by putting your creative and technical impulses to use. Develop a platform of new skills across a range of media arts practices within our extensive production facilities and with our highly experienced, industry-focused teaching team.

What will I study in Digital Media Extended Certificate?

You will study a range of creative digital art mediums from within moving image practices, such as music videos, advertising and script writing. Alongside practical c focused project work, you will also be taught in-depth media theories that relate to all your areas of study including industry and audience. This is both a theoretical and practical media course. Two Units on this course are written examination based. This course will allow you to develop and explore your creative ideas alongside your practical media hardware and software skills.

Entry Requirements

At least five GCSEs at Grade 4 or above, with at least three from the basket subjects.

How will I learn?

You will be taught via in-class practical activities, hardware and software demonstrations and lectures. You will work both in small groups and individually to complete your projects. Your lecturer and full time technician will guide you as you discover your potential as a future media practitioner.

How will I be assessed?

This is a two year course and is the equivalent of 1 A-Level. You will complete 8 Units overall. 6 of these units are coursework based and 2 are examined. You will sit 1 exam in each academic year. The practical units are subject to change but typically include units in the following areas:

  • Scriptwriting for media products
  • Creating a media product - Music video production
  • Planning and pitching media products
  • Advertising media - audio visual advertising

The examined units focus on the following areas:

  • Media products and audiences
  • Pre-production and planning

Any trips?

Previously, the media department has taken trips to the Warner Bros Harry Potter Studios and British Board of Film Classification.

Are there any costs involved?

Each student is required to have their own SD card for digital video production. This must be a 'class 10' SD card. We recommend 32 GB in size.

Do I need my own media production equipment (a video camera or computer for example)?

No, we do not expect you to provide any media production equipment to participate in the course. We can supply all the equipment you will require.

Yes, all non-examined Units will require supporting written work alongside the final practicals you produce
