Congratulations to the A-level Biology and Chemistry students who recently participated in the prestigious Olympiad competitions.
The Olympiad is an annual problem-solving competition designed to challenge and stimulate students and encourage them to extend their talents. They are introduced to unfamiliar topics and ideas and assigned a series of tasks to complete.
This year, there were 42 participants for Biology and 30 for Chemistry, with some students participating in both the Biology and Chemistry Olympiad!
For Biology, there were 10 Bronze certificates, four Silver certificates and one Gold certificate awarded.
In Chemistry, there were 11 Bronze certificates, 12 Silver certificates, and one Gold certificate.
Kiera, Course Team Leader for Chemistry, said “The Chemistry Olympiad is an enormously challenging task which stretches students to apply new information to unfamiliar scenarios. It’s also a great opportunity to learn about some of the wider uses of Chemistry. We’re very proud of our learners for participating and for the record achievement of our Year 1s. Well done everyone!”
Dave, Course Team Leader for Biology, said “This year we had a record number of students participate in the Biology Olympiad. We are extremely proud of everyone who took part as it’s an extremely challenging competition that requires students to apply their biological knowledge and understanding and complete some very hard problem solving. Congratulations again to all of our ‘Olympians!’”.
