Italian for Beginners

Are you interested in finding out more about Italian culture? Do you enjoy holidaying in Italy or Italian speaking countries, and want to learn the language? Do you have family or friends who live there? If so, then this is the course for you. This course is aimed at complete beginners with no previous knowledge of Italian.

By the end of the course, you will be able to communicate with sympathetic native speakers, ask for and understand information using basic phrases and be able to express opinions in a variety of everyday tourist situations.

Our Beginners Level consists of two parts. We recommend you attend both before progressing to the next level. The masterclass course is for learners who have attended both parts of the Beginners Level. It’s an opportunity to develop your conversation skills around a theme each week e.g. food, travel, restaurants and cafes, culture and arts… Its aim is to boost confidence in your language skills to prepare you for further levels or real world experiences.

How will I learn?

As communication is the main objective of this course, students work in pairs or groups to practise speaking and listening. Recorded material, such as CDs and authentic listening texts/videos will also be regularly used to improve listening skills. Understanding written Italian will be based on everyday items such as notices, leaflets and signs. Italian will be the medium of instruction as far as possible.

What do I need to bring?

Notepad/paper and a pen.

You are of course welcome to bring bottled water or filled travel mugs with you should you wish.
