Recently, students across the Media department took an educational trip to Disneyland Paris to further their understanding of the media industry.

The students attended a series of seminars and workshops in which they learnt about how Disney became the successful global brand that it is, through the use of marketing and advertising.

In the workshops, the students put these techniques into practise and developed pitches for various Disney products to sell them to a target audience.

Students also had the time to enjoy the Disney park, including going on the rides and watching the parades and fireworks, which they all really enjoyed. The trip ended with a short trip into Paris to visit the Eiffel Tower, Arc De Triomphe, and some local shops.

Nigel Gooing, Media Course Team Leader, said “We all had a fantastic time at Disneyland Paris. The rides were fun of course! However, it was the educational workshops that were a real eyeopener for our students. It was a unique chance for them to hear directly how one of the biggest entertainment industries in the world handles its marketing and media, and be able to ask them questions. It really helps the students see how what we teach in the classroom has real value in the workplace.”

Josh, a Year 2 Creative Media student, said “It was such a fun trip, a good mix of learning and experiences”

Flo, a Year 2 A-level Media student, said “This trip was an amazing chance to learn about media and marketing through the seminars while also having fun on rides and in central Paris”

Alex, a Year 2 Creative Media student, said “It was one of the best experiences I have ever had”.
