Recently, Year 1 Sport and Physical Activity students had an opportunity to put their leadership skills into practice when they helped to deliver the College’s annual Panathlon Challenge.
The students hosted 60 children from seven local primary schools and representatives from the Panathlon Foundation for this highly anticipated event.
The Panathlon Foundation is a charity that provides children with disabilities and special needs in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland opportunities to engage in competitive sport.
The students worked with Panathlon representatives to lead and officiate several activity stations, and the Sports Hall was buzzing with excitement as the children participated in the carousel of sports on offer. The students did a brilliant job of managing the busy event and ensuring that it ran smoothly.
Ross Langworthy, Course Team Leader for Sport and Physical Activity, said “The Panathlon is a fantastic event for us to be involved with as a college, as it provides an opportunity for primary school children with a variety of barriers to physical activity an opportunity to participate in a range of adapted activities. Our students were an absolute credit to the college, the way they communicated with the children, built confidence, and ensured everyone had a great time was outstanding and we have received some amazing feedback from both the primary school staff and the event co-ordinators. This event provides our students with another opportunity to develop and demonstrate their leadership and communication skills, which will help them become more employable in a wide range of roles within the sports, leisure, and physical activity industries.”
