Staff in the Cirencester College Pastoral Team are taking on the Fairford 10k run on Sunday 8th June to raise money for Cirencester Housing for Young People (CHYP).

The team are busy training, and would greatly appreciate any donations for this worthy cause.

Pastoral Tutor, Sarah Mogford, said “We have chosen to raise money for CHYP due to the nature of our jobs. We have become deeply aware of how life can change dramatically for young people, through no fault of their own, at a very vulnerable time in their lives. We value the vital support offered by charities such as CHYP and we know how much this charity works hard in supporting our students at a time of real need.

10k might not seem much for some, but for a number of us it has been quite a challenge so far! We have four weeks to go, and we are wavering on being able to do 3-5k at the moment! So please donate to help spur us on, remember, any amount you donate will go towards making young people’s lives a bit easier to manage day to day.

Thank you in advance from the Pastoral team.”

CHYP provides support for young people aged 16-25, from a variety of different backgrounds, some maybe homeless, a victim of a family break up, abuse or leaving care. Many have additional problems such as learning difficulties and mental health issues.

Each resident is set up with a dedicated key worker, who works closely with them to identify their support needs. They are supported 24 hours a day.

During their stay, residents learn how to look after themselves and start preparing for life in their own home. Support is given with life skills from self-care, cooking and laundry to literacy, numeracy and budgeting.
