Congratulations to Year 2 Creative Media students George and Cameron, who became the first-ever winners of the “Young Community Entrepreneurs” award at the recent Cirencester Community Awards for a documentary they created for the Cirencester History Festival.
“Threads of History: Picking at Cirencester’s Past” was inspired by George’s work experience placement with Cirencester Radio, and journeys through Cirencester’s past from the Roman Ages to the World Wars, and features an interview in an air raid shelter.
George and Cameron, in their respective roles as Sound Operator, Director, Producer, and Cinematographer, spent a year creating the documentary, using equipment from the college’s Media department, and collaborated with students across College to bring their vision to life. A-level Classical Civilisation students conducted important research, and A-level History students featured as presenters. George and Cameron also worked with approximately 10 local businesses in the production process.
The documentary was watched by 150 people at the Cirencester Community Awards in April, and shortly afterwards George and Cameron were called on stage to receive their award from the High Sheriff of Gloucester.
“I was really shocked”, said Cameron, “We weren’t expecting it at all.”
George said “Creating the documentary was a very stressful but fun experience. When we received our award, I was confused, but in a positive way. I was just really surprised.”
Media Lecturer, Danny Ransom, said “The Media department would like to extend our congratulations to George and Cameron on the success of their documentary. They have demonstrated a wealth of talent both creatively and logistically and worked independently to produce their film. We are very proud of them and wish them every success in their future careers.”
