Recently, Year 1 Sport and Physical Activity students supported the delivery of a successful Panathlon event.

Panathlon is a national charity which gives young people with disabilities and special educational needs the opportunity to take part in competitive sport.

The students hosted over 70 children from nine local primary schools and worked with Panathlon representatives for this highly anticipated annual event.

They set up a carousel of activity stations, including bean bag throwing and parachute games, and did a brilliant job of coaching and encouraging the children to participate.

The sports hall was buzzing with excitement, and the students did a superb job of ensuring the event ran smoothly and everyone was enjoying themselves.

Tina Manning from Panathlon, said “I thought the leaders were outstanding. They listened really well to the brief and set their stations up quickly. They delivered great, clear demonstrations and gave encouragement to every child! They were a joy to work with! Thank you!”

A parent of one of the visiting primary school pupils said “The panathlon meant the world to my daughter. She has often struggled with sport, and getting a medal, feeling confident and having students really guide and support her made her day. It has definitely changed her views on sport, and I wanted to say thank you to all of the students and the college for putting on this event.”

Ross Langworthy, Course Team Leader, said “It was an absolute pleasure to be asked to host the South Cotswolds Primary School Panathlon event again this year. This annual event is a fantastic opportunity for young people with special educational needs from local primary schools to come together and enjoy a positive experience of sport and physical activity. Once again, I was blown away with our students’ ability to communicate, problem solve and deliver a fantastic event. Seeing so many young children getting such enjoyment through sport and observing our leaders play such a key role in this positive experience, through constant encouragement and enthusiasm, really demonstrates what Sport & Physical Activity at Cirencester College is all about.”

Well done to all of the students involved in the running of this event.
